Question by Katie: How advanced were prosthetic limbs in the 17th Century?
I’m thinking about writing a story that takes place in the late 1600s. In the story in question, one of the main protagonists has a prosthetic arm. Since I want the story to be as believable as possible, I’m wondering how advanced artificial limbs were during that time. I’ve seen pictures of artificial limbs that date to that century, which were constructed from iron, but it’s never clear if those type of limbs were advanced enough to enable movement in the fingers and joints. Can anyone help me?
